ABOUT US

UCLU Runaground aims to produce professional quality touring theatre that is both innovative and accessible.

UCLU RUNAGROUND: WHO ARE WE?

Previously known as Encore, UCLU Runaground are a theatrical touring group made up of students from University College London Union (UCLU). The group is the touring contingent of the UCLU Drama Society, which is the student run society responsible for producing Drama for University College London. In London, the Drama Society produces approximately 20 shows per year in a variety of different venues, including the professional 535-seat Bloomsbury Theatre as well as for a  smaller 60-seat studio theatre. The society also produces drama in outdoor venues and in other places around the UCL campus as site-specific theatre.

UCLU Runaground is made up of the most experienced members of the society. In 2008, the group produced Berkoff's East for the Edinburgh Festival Fringe. This production was performed in C Soco and received critical acclaim. Following the success of East, UCLU Runaground returned to the Fringe in 2009 with two brand new shows. King Ubu, an adaptation of Alfred Jarry's absurdist masterpiece Ubu Roi, played at Zoo Venue while God: A Comedy by Woody Allen received a sell-out award at the Pleasance Dome.

UCLU Runaground's creative team have a large amount of combined experience in producing shows, and in 2010 we are pleased to be able to return to the Fringe to build on our success in previous years as well as beginning a brand new venture, producing a show at the Festival d'Avignon Off in France.
