Between 2001 and 2005, James was involved as an actor, a stage hand, a DSM and eventually as a Stage Manager in productions of Le Malade Imaginaire, West Side Story, The Crucible, Little Shop of Horrors, Bugsy Malone, Comedy of Errors, Caucasian Chalk Circle, Grease, Cabaret, Equus, The Love of the Nightingale and Crave.
In 2005 he directed and produced Michael Frayn's Noises Off for Uppingham Theatre which sold out all performances and received critical acclaim. In the same year, he went on to co-direct and design a production of 4.48 Psychosis by Sarah Kane, again for Uppingham Theatre.
Since arriving in London, James has produced Our Country's Good by Wertenbaker for the Bloomsbury Theatre (2007) and a new piece of writing called Treasure Hunt which was privately sponsored and performed for 3 weeks in Queen's Park, London (2007). James has also produced an outdoor production of Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream (2008), which was performed in the UCL Front Quad, and smaller productions of The Trial by Berkoff, Chatroom by Walsh, Macbett by Ionesco and On Location by Smith, all of which were performed in a small London studio (2008).
Recently, James has worked in the West End offices of the Ambassador Theatre Group, where he worked for the Producers on productions of Fat Pig and Riflemind in Trafalgar Studios, and the national touring productions of West Side Story and Noises Off. During his time working for the ATG, James also worked on the Australian and European productions of The Rocky Horror Show. James has also been recently been asked to work for the marketing department of the Underbelly.
In 2008-9 he has been the President of the UCL Union Drama Society and has overseen the production of over 20 different shows in 6 different venues including studios, the Bloomsbury Theatre and a variety of outdoor spaces. Productions he has supervised include Blood Wedding, Henry IV, Twelfth Night, La Religieuse and Tartuffe amongst others. During his Presidency, the UCL Union Drama Society has seen record audiences and a record number of productions, as well as the development of a brand new professional workshops programme.
James also holds an Upper Second Class BA in Human Geography from UCL.
James has been involved in the production of three previous shows for the Edinburgh Festival Fringe since 2006. He is delighted to be producing King Ubu and God for the 2009 Edinburgh Festival Fringe.
