Alfred Jarry's absurdist masterpiece in a brand new, brilliantly transformed adaptation from the critically acclaimed UCLU Runaground. A haphazard usurpation retold as a coup d'état at a Vaudeville Music Hall. Described by the author as 'a flaming mud pile of shit'.

King Ubu tells the story of the ambitious but cowardly Pere Ubu's rise to power, and subsequent fall. The play has a colourful production history, variously received and rejected for its idiosyncratic style and open sadism. Yet it is a seminal text; the blueprint for Absurdist Theatre. Our production explores Jarry's challenge to theatrical convention by finding a scenic equivalent within a lugubriously theatrical tradition. This is Vaudeville through screwy eyes; the love child of Kurt Weill and Kenneth Williams.
